A partnership between Kennet District Council, The Devizes Development Partnership, The Crown Estates, Jeremy Leonard , Wiltshire County Council and English Nature has developed a plan to put the Battle of Roundway 1643, back on the map!
Our objective is to bring people into our area which will be an opportunity for all the local hotels, restaurants, pubs, shops etc. to benefit from. To support the festival, 56 acres of farmland have been put to permanent grass for a re-enactment by the Sealed Knot and in addition some £30,000 bids are in progress to promote the heritage, educational and amenity aspects of the Roundway Hill, including a planned improvement in the access to the escarpment at Oliver’s Castle. We have the support of the English Heritage, the Council for the Protection of Rural England, Battlefield Trust, Wiltshire Heritage Museum, the County Archaeologist, members of the local community and local schools. Sufficient funding is in place to cover the core re-enactment costs and we are pleased that the Wiltshire press are already advertising the event. We hope to make sufficient revenue this year to cover the set up costs associated with future events planned for every two years but we need additional financial support for this year. We offered, in return for £50 sponsorship, entry into a free prize draw to win an exclusive charter balloon flight for two! And in addition the winner to have their company name predominantly displayed over the weekend of the festival at the Battlefield site, and listed on this website. |
